>> In Other News: Excuse Me - We Don't Need Another Inaccurate Ronaldo Statue! Who Dis?! ⚽
I hope you are having a good day. It was Cristiano Ronaldo's 40th birthday yesterday. For this occasion, artist Sergio Furnari, recognized for his terra cotta-and-steel interpretation of the famous New York image “Lunchtime atop a Skyscraper,” has crafted a 12-foot bronze sculpture to “capture the essence of Ronaldo not only as an athlete but also as a cultural figure who has inspired millions worldwide,” as stated in a press release. This statue was placed in Times Square on Wednesday, as a tribute for fans to gather and celebrate their hero.
And many of them did show up. Is it just me or is this statue once again completely inaccurate? To me, this looks more like a Batman villain than one of the best footballers of our time. “Cristiano Ronaldo embodies more than the role of a football player; he represents perseverance, excellence and global unity. His influence inspired me in the creation of this masterpiece,” Furnari stated. The intentions may have been good, but I think it would be best to get the co-sign from the person the statue is meant to represent before putting it up. If they can not get it right, why not take the time, to work on it more until they do?
If this would be me, I would say please do not honour me in this way. 😊 I know these days you are not supposed to voice any critical opinion but this was meant to be a symbol of appreciation, respect and admiration. So why not make it outstandingly accurate? However, Furnaris is clearly a big supporter of the Portuguese kicker, as he also stated: 'I strongly believe that with the right training and mental preparation, Ronaldo could win the World Cup in 2026.' As of now, it is unclear if he will participate in the next World Cup. It would be interesting to find out what Ronaldo personally thinks, about this gesture of appreciation. Anyway, Happy belated Birthday. 🎉
