You know him, you love him — you made the article about him the most-read on this blog and now - it is time to celebrate, the one and only, timeless German mascot and icon: Bernd, das Brot! This year, Bernd is enduring his 25th anniversary on air. 🎊

In the picture above, you can see the statue built in his honor, located in Erfurt, Germany. In case you have missed this groundbreaking piece of journalism, here is what you need to know about him:

'Bernd das Brot ('Bernd the Bread') is a grumpy, talking loaf of bread and a beloved German TV character. Known for his deadpan humor and pessimistic outlook, Bernd became an unlikely cult icon after debuting on the children’s channel KiKA in 2000. Despite his constant complaints and catchphrase “Mist!” (“Damn!”), he’s adored by both kids and adults for his dry wit and existential charm. 

Over the years, Bernd has become a cult figure in German pop culture, appearing on stamps, public campaigns, and even in protests when his statue was once “kidnapped.” For many Germans, he is more than just a puppet - he is a symbol of lovable pessimism and dry wit in the face of life’s absurdities.

Now, 25 years later, Bernd das Brot is still on air - and still grumbling about it.'

When you watch the KiKa channel, for several hours at night, you can sometimes see him floating in space - like in this video accompanied by 'the most boring country song ever.' Many visitors from other countries are confused by this. 

Let us clarify: It is what is called a Sendepause, which means a break in regular programming. During this time, Bernd takes over the screen with his moody persona, sending you grumpy vibes from space. That explains everything, or maybe not. Besides that, he also has his own TV show and two free online action games.

Now, what else is there to say other than:

Außerdem findet am 25sten Februar um 14 Uhr eine Kundgebung vor dem Brandenburger Tor in Berlin statt . Desto mehr Teilnehmer sich dort einfinden, desto mehr wird der Gesuch nach Verhandlungen die zu Frieden führen können, gehört. Solltest Du also gerade vor Ort sein und diese Einstellung teilen, kannst Du dich gern den anderen anschließen die ebenfalls durch Vernunft etwas bewirken wollen,  als die Krise durch weitere Waffenlieferungen immer weiter anzuheizen. Hello dear readers! In this presentation, you will hear how the US population was influenced online during the time leading up to the 2016 election. Surprisingly open, Alexander Nix former CEO of British company  Cambridge Analytica gave us an insight on what is possible in regards to - allegedly - manipulating hundreds of thousands of people by using personal data. After watching this, in conclusion we would like to say: 'Thank you for your input or maybe not?'  And if you now think - well that was recorded in Germany in 2017, we can only reply by saying, we are sharing this with you better late than never because what else are we gonna do on a weekend in isolation?!  Also, there is a documentary out on Netflix called The Great Hack . This should be interesting and we are about to watch it! Oh, what a fun Sunday it has been so far.  PS.
