>> Culinary Excursions: My First Time at a (Very Good) Vegan Restaurant - Mildred’s in London! 🇬🇧🥥🍲🍍🥭

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to your favorite blog about vegan cuisine. As you might remember, if there is one thing I absolutely like about London besides the theatre, it’s the international food options. As previously discussed on this blog, I went to quite a few restaurants last year. One of them was a true highlight! This is because I had never been to a vegan restaurant before, so naturally it was not exactly my first choice. To be honest, when I think of vegan food, intense flavors are the last thing that comes to mind… but sometimes, the greater the skepticism, the greater the positive surprise — as in this case! I just remembered this restaurant visit because I signed up for their newsletter and got an email from them today.

This Sri Lankan dish is what I had - that was a premiere too

'Mildred’s is a London-based plant-based restaurant chain that started in 1988 in Soho. It has since expanded to several locations such as Covent Garden, Camden, King’s Cross and more, each with its own character. What makes Mildred’s stand out is its adventurous globally inspired menu (everything now vegan), creative flavor combinations, seasonal dishes and welcoming vibe - casual but vibrant.'

So this dish, when you were expecting some bland vegan food like I was, turned out to be literally an explosion of flavors in the mouth! It was so delicious. You could taste each and every ingredient. Even the rice had different herbs in it somehow. There was freshly toasted bread and several dips! This dinner took place at the original Soho location. There was very limited space, but the food really made up for it and I think they renovated it by the end of last year to make the seating area a bit more comfortable.

As I previously mentioned, I like Peruvian food, I had a lot of Itsu on my lunch breaks and many Pret salmon salads — which they then discontinued 😱 (I hope that was just a seasonal error on their part) — and we also can not disregard Nando's! I even think there was a slight uptick in quality there last year. You get good value for a good price by London food standards.

The area I was living in, is well known for its Indian food. There were several restaurants right next to each other, from which I sometimes picked up dinner.

Speaking of international food, I also want to rectify the misconception that all German food is bad. If you think so, you obviously never had BRATKARTOFFELN — not to forget the Spiegelei! It might not be the lightest choice but it is easy to make and tastes really good. You should try it sometime. 🙂 Also, it is not true that all of our food revolves around potatoes… only maybe 90%.

Bratkartoffeln is a typical - delicious - German dish you must try 🇩🇪
