It is that time again: Meet Skye Newman.
'Skye Newman is one of the most exciting new talents to emerge from the UK music scene. Born in South East London in 2003, she blends neo-soul, R&B, indie and pop into a sound that feels both raw and deeply personal.
She first exploded onto the scene in 2025 with her debut single “Hairdresser”, which quickly entered the UK charts, followed by “Family Matters”, a top 10 hit that showcased her emotionally honest songwriting.
What sets Newman apart is her storytelling. Drawing on her working-class upbringing and real-life experiences, her music tackles themes like family struggles, trauma, and identity with striking vulnerability.
Her debut EP SE9 Part 1 (named after her South London roots) cemented her as an artist to watch, while industry recognition soon followed - including winning BBC Radio 1’s prestigious Sound of 2026 and earning Brit Award nominations.
Still early in her career, Skye Newman represents a new wave of British artists: authentic, unfiltered, and unafraid to tell real stories. With a growing fanbase and major co-signs, she’s widely seen as a future star shaping the sound of UK music.'
'Family Matters' is our favorite song so far and she wrote it herself, with a few collaborators and that at age 22!
OMG. I mean I was upset at this age too - but for other reasons.
For years, nepo babies and 'new artists' have been pushed onto us,
supported by the entertainment industry machinery, often with no detectable talent.
To the contrary, seeing an artist like Skye Newman emerge and break through is so refreshing. It reminds us that true talent is still out there, even in this day and age.
Genuine talent has to be nurtured and protected and we have to bring it back to the forefront. Fakery and crappy output just does not cut it. It remains irrelevant.
You want to be reported about? You want to walk a red carpet - give us a reason.
We want to be in awe and admire but please bring the special ability.
We need more opportunities and supportive platforms for artists like her.
